I would like to thank our School Council members this year for their efforts and dedication. This year members of School Council included Chair: Jennifer Walsom, Vice Chair: Meaghan Eisenberg, Voting Members: Cindy Stranak, Natacha da Silva, Helen Burnett Nichols, Esme Rambert, Louai Moghrabi, Pam Ekins, Tiffany Herron, Jennifer Castle-Timms, Katherine Hollands, Andrea McLean, Rosalyn Johnson, Fleur McGeoch. Staff Representative: Janine Durajlija,
Throughout the year, we have achieved numerous milestones and embarked on exciting initiatives, all made possible by your contributions and enthusiasm. From enriching educational programs to community-building events, your participation has been invaluable.
With support from School Council, we held a very successful Parent Engagement Night. Council also supported our students and staff during the Kanétskare Café, and the Scholastic Book Fair. We were able to raise funds to purchase classroom supplies, DPA equipment and furniture for our library.
We are pleased to report that our school council meetings have been a cornerstone of our collaborative efforts. These meetings have provided a platform for sharing ideas, discussing important matters, and planning for the future. Your insights and perspectives have greatly influenced our decisions and helped shape the direction of our school.
As we look forward to the next academic year, we encourage you to continue your active involvement. Your presence at our school council meetings is crucial, and we warmly invite you to join us in these gatherings. Together, we can continue to create a nurturing and inspiring environment for our children.
Our first school council meeting of the 2026-2027 school year will be held on Thursday September 24th from 6:30 to 7:30 pm in the library.
Further information and reminders will be shared in early September.
Thank you once again for your support and commitment. We wish you a restful and enjoyable summer break.
Joanne Hall, Principal
Kanétskare School Council 2025 – 2026
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Every school in Ontario is required to have a School Council to work collaboratively with the principal to improve student achievement and to enhance accountability of the school with parents. We welcome all parents/guardians who are willing to volunteer their time to participate on our School Council for the 2025- 2026 school year.
School Councils must hold annual elections to identify voting members and various positions such as School Council Chair. Elected members vote on School Council matters and represent the group’s ideas and advisory suggestions for the Principal. Please note that you do not have to be an elected member of School Council to attend meetings. All meetings are open to all parents/guardians who wish to attend.
To declare your interest to become an elected member on School Council, please complete the nomination form below. You may also nominate another parent/guardian of a student at our school to become an elected School Council member. All nominations forms must be received by the start of our first meeting. Please note that you must attend the meeting on Thursday, September 18th from 6:30 – 7:30 pm in the Library in order to be elected to Council.
Please consider joining us on School Council as an elected or general member. School Council involvement is a great way to support your child’s education and we look forward to working together.
